What is GMP?

The PGDM(General Management) program, previously known as GMP, is the flagship fulltime, 15-months residential MBA program offered by XLRI for aspirants with more than 5 years of professional/ managerial work experience.

Why should I choose General Management Programme?

The General Management Program at XLRI is the oldest One Year MBA Program to be offered in India. When GMP was conceived and introduced way back in 1997, a one year full time MBA program was unheard of in India. XLRI pioneered GMP as a program for middle-level and senior level managers across sectors to hone their managerial experience & skills by providing a strong grounding on management theories.

The participants are practicing managers with more than 900 years of cumulative experience in diverse functions and share the flair of excelling in every task they undertake. The teaching methodology for GMP is rigorous and well-rounded, blending business acumen in the fundamental courses with a wide range of electives. The 15-months fully residential program, has a healthy mix of classroom lectures and discussions, case based studies and projects imparting a broad outlook, enriching the participants and encouraging them to think beyond their limits and identify out-of-the-box solutions and challenge the status-quo.

GMP offers a unique opportunity to develop a holistic understanding of various business functions, maximize peer to peer learning and leading edge in their areas of interest. The graduates not only carry with them the requisite functional knowledge, but are multi-faceted and complete individuals, well prepared and deployable from day one across organizational roles and divisions in the industry.

What is the difference between 15-months General Management Program and 2 Year MBA Programs offered by XLRI?

While both the two year MBA and the one year MBA programs offered by XLRI cover similar material, there are some fundamental differences.

The One Year MBA is designed for aspirants with more than 5 years of professional/ managerial work experience. The program aims at equipping the managers with the essential tools of management while keeping them abreast with the latest trends in management education. The teaching methodology has been adopted accordingly to incorporate an optimal blend of case based and practical approach.

The two year MBA programs caters to an audience with little or no prior work experience. The core subjects and electives offered in both the one and two year MBA programs are same. programAs per AICTE guidelines the numbers of contact hours have been reduced compared to the 2 year courses.

Is the GMP an accredited programme?

Yes, GMP is an AICTE accredited program with the approval coming from AICTE in May 2012. Process to obtain the EQUIS and AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation for GMP is currently underway.

What is the typical profile of a GMP Student?

GMP sees a blend of seasoned professionals, from entrepreneurs to doctors and scientists, chartered accountants, bankers, and healthcare professionals representing wide array of sectors such as Manufacturing, Energy and Infrastructure to name a few. Each of the candidates are handpicked through a rigorous exercise of GMAT/ XAT, essay writing and personal interview, which takes into account the quality of the work experience, the candidates' knowledge and aptitude, apart from the scores obtained in various academic examinations.

What is the duration of the course?

The duration of the course is 15 months.

What are the electives offered to GMP Students?

The maximum number of electives that are offered is 36. The actual number slightly varies according to the availability of faculty and student feedback. The current batch of GMP has been offered a set of 35 electives. The list of electives can be referred at - Click Here

Is summer internship offered by XLRI to GMP Students?

The college does not provide Summer Internship to students, but an interested student may apply for the same on his/her own.

10.

Is a laptop mandatory?

Yes, every student must have his/ her own laptop.

11.

What should be the configuration of the laptop? What software would be needed?

Any standard laptop capable of running Windows XP/ 7/8 with a minimum battery backup of 1.5 - 2 hours will serve the purpose. A detailed hardware recommendation of the laptop will be provided along with the admission package.

XLRI Computer Center will provide all the required software packages (including operating system, office suite, antivirus, statistical packages) needed for the course.

 

Admission Requirements

What level of Work Experience is required for GMP?

A minimum professional/ managerial experience of 5 years is required for applying to the GMP program.

2.

Is GMAT mandatory?

Not necessary, if you have a valid XAT score. The college accepts both GMAT and XAT scores for admission. Please refer to the admissions page for details on the validity criteria of GMAT scores.

4.

What is the minimum GMAT/XAT score required for admission?

There is no pre requisite on the minimum GMAT/XAT score required for admission. At the time of admission, the candidates are evaluated in a holistic manner which takes into account the quality of the work experience and the candidates' knowledge and aptitude, apart from the scores obtained in various academic examinations. For reference purpose, the average GMAT score of the current batch is 700 and XAT score is 90 percentile.

Admission Process

Do I have to physically attend the interview?

The candidates located in India have to attend the interview physically at the pre-declared locations. However, for NRI candidates, remote interview with video conferencing will be arranged.

 

Course Fee

1.

What is the fee for GMP?

The students opting for family accommodation will have to pay extra Rs 70,000 on top of the normal course fee along with the first installment.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes, the fee breakup schedule will be provided by the college. Apart from the first installment which is paid at the time of registration, the remaining installments are to be paid in August, November and March.

3.

Does XLRI have tie ups with any local banks for education loans?

XLRI does not have any official tie - up with any nationalized banks for providing loans to students. But all major banks, specifically the SBI bank at XLRI Branch, Jamshedpur, cater to the loan requirements of XLRI Students with preferential treatment.

 

Accommodation

1.

What kind of accommodation is offered to GMP Students?

The accommodation for GMP students includes studio apartments for single accommodation and 1 BHK apartments for students who are planning to stay with their family in campus.

What is the accommodation fee?

The accommodation fee for studio is included in the fee. The students opting for family accommodation will have to pay extra Rs 70,000 on top of the normal course fee along with the first installment.

3.

Is their accommodation for married students?

Married students may opt for a 1 BHK apartment.

4.

Are all students required to stay in campus?

Even though in-campus accommodation is not mandatory, it is highly recommended to facilitate late night classes, frequently changing assignments and engagements that a student has to be involved in XL in a day to day basis.

5.

What facilities are provided for accommodation?

For studio accommodations, everything needed for day to day living, except personal belongings, will be provided. For family accommodations, only basic infrastructure like bed frame, study table and cupboards will be provided. Family apartments have one bedroom, kitchen, living area and a utility room.

Other facilities available include housekeeping and mess facilities. Also every apartment is equipped with an Air Conditioner, Intercom and Wi-Fi and LAN connectivity. Laundry service is available at personal expense for a fixed monthly charge.

Yes, the campus has enough parking spaces for personal vehicles.
