GMP Placements
The placement drive for the one-year program of XLRI, General Management Program (GMP), for the class graduating May 2011, was completed with many firsts to its name. The batch comprised a total of 120 students, of which 9 were not seeking employment, either being on sabbatical or being company sponsored. The process saw a spread of offers, both from old economy and new economy companies. The experience range of the batch was between 5 years to 16 years. The average work experience of the batch was pegged at 6.4 years. The placement process saw 80% of previous recruiters returning to recruit year on year, underscoring the confidence and satisfaction shown by the industry towards the program and its candidates.
The response from the industry was overwhelming, with the likes of 3M, ABB, Accenture, Amazon, ANZ, App Labs, Ashok Leyland, Bank of America, Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd, Cairns India, Cap Gemini, Citibank, Cognizant Business Consulting, Ernst & Young Pvt. Ltd, Hewlett Packard, JP Morgan Chase, Mahindra & Mahindra, Mphasis, Polaris, Tech Mahindra, TELCON, Reliance taking part in the process.
The rolling placements had started in December 2010, followed by placement drives at Mumbai and Bangalore. The high point of the placement process was the jump in the salaries as the base salary saw an increase of 20% with respect to the base salary for last year. The number of students receiving other guaranteed benefits and signing bonus increased by 15% and the average other guaranteed compensation and signing bonus also saw an increase of 30% and 23% respectively on an year-on-year basis. The number of international offers also increased by 50% and comprised of 10% of the total offers accepted by the students. The salaries also saw an upward trend as compared to previous year. The highest salary this year touched Rs. 30 lakhs, while the average hovered around Rs. 16.21 lakhs.
The roles offered were for senior and middle management positions by the corporate. Some of the designations offered were those of the General Manager, Business unit head, country head, global leadership cadre, Senior Manager etc.
Traditionally, consulting and financial services firms work on developing managers from entry levels or reaching out to the job market to find matching skills. This time out, these companies to developed an interest in the GMP students, since they saw the value of new thought processes these experienced professionals bring on the table.
