Supply Chain Analytics

18 Feb 2019 - 22 Feb 2019
MDP Number : 48
Area : Production, Operations & Decision Sciences
Venue : XLRI Jamshedpur
Programme Directors : TAS Vijayaraghavan

Introduction and Objective :

Competition in today's market with new products having shorter life-cycles and growing customers' expectations has forced many companies to focus their attention and invest in their supply chains. Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the integration of key business processes from end user through original suppliers that provides products, services and information that adds value for customers and other stakeholders. This programme addresses these issues covering various aspects of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management and enables the participants to understand the basic analytical techniques and methods to address some of key decision areas in supply chain management.

Programme Contents :

  • Basics
    • Linear Programming and Transportation Problems
    • Statistical Distributions
  • Warehousing Decisions
    • Location of Facilities in Supply chain Network
      • Methods like Maximal Covering, P-Median, P-Centre, Set Covering etc
      • Methods like Centre of Gravity, P-Median etc Using Logware software
      • Use of SITATION Software
    • Space Determination and Layout Decisions V Exercises and design simulations
  • Inventory Decisions
    • Basic EOQ Models and Marginal Discount models
    • Inventory Aggregation models and Joint Replenishment Models
    • Bullwhip Effect and quantification
    • LIMIT-(Lot Sizing Inventory Management Interpolation Technique) in Inventory decisions
    • Multi Echelon Inventory Models
    • JIT and VMI Strategies in Inventory
    • Risk Pooling
    • Dynamic Lot Sizing (covering Silver-Meal, Wagner-Whitin algorithms)
  • Transportation Decisions
    • Trade offs in Transportation Decisions
    • Network Models covering Spanning Trees, Shortest Paths, Maximal Flow etc
    • Allocation Models and applications
    • Routing and Scheduling Algorithms
  • Analytic Hierarchy Process
  • Fuzzy Logic and Applications
  • Data Envelopment Analysis
  • Theory of Constraints and Supply Chain Management

Methodology :

The programme will focus more on the models, algorithms and methods in various areas of supply chain management and hence some background and aptitude in mathematics would be preferable but not mandatory as the programme will assume no such background. The programme will use computer based software and MS Excel based methods as pedagogy.
