Sigma

SIGMA conducts events in a wide range of sectors namely - education, health, environment and social sector.

Project Navoday: A legal literacy program to educate individuals about their basic legal rights. Volunteers visit nearby villages of Jamshedpur to take sessions on basic law and human rights.

In 2018 SIGMA started two unique initiatives. Sanitation Drive to bring awareness regarding sanitary napkins among the female housekeeping staff of the institute. Cell Donation Drive was conducted in collaboration with NGO Datri. The non-profit organisation works towards the creation of a wide and diverse database of potential blood stem cell donors for patients suffering from Leukaemia, Thalassemia and other blood-related disorders.

On the similar lines, a 2-day Eye check-up camp in association with Titan was conducted, as we believe physical well-being is a cornerstone to creating a stronger society. The event saw a participation of more than hundred people from students, faculty and maintenance staff. Along with this, SIGMA organised two Blood Donation Drives, one in association with Brahmananda Narayana Multispecialty hospital and the other in collaboration with Jamshedpur Blood Bank. The drive saw active participation from more than 50 donors.

Along with these, SIGMA conducts events throughout the year. This includes Basic Computer Learning Program, which trains school students in relevant computer skills. The course consists of 15 sessions and each session is of two hours. Newspaper Collection Drives are conducted in the campus, which is later given to an NGO Green Garbage. Also Spot fixing, Plantation and Road Safety drives are conducted by SIGMA.

A series of live projects like Oyster Mushrooms: designing methods to promote these range of mushrooms grown in the outskirts of Jamshedpur; Sabar: Sustainable model for livelihood creation; ACT: Helping out women from villages involved in creating products from paper.

SIGMA also conducts the Social Entrepreneurship Conclave in which eminent social entrepreneurs share their experience and discuss their business model. Asia Meet 2018, a sustainability summit, was conducted in February, 2018 in which oikos chapter members from across Asia met to discuss sustainability. The meet also involved talk from eminent speakers including Mr. Gopi Menon, Chief of State officer, UNICEF and other segments like case study competition, NGO visits, JUSCO IOT centre visit, business plan competition etc.
