Activities during 2013-14


Sapphire launched its ICE breaker event CHAOS for the juniors. A total of 23 teams of 4 each participated in the event. The final  round was a recruitment based strategy game which put the teams through a whole lot of negotiations.


The junior team came up with the idea for Body Shop. The event was open to all 2- year full time program students. The final round was a simulation where the objective was to maximize company’s employee value by trading employees with other companies in the market.

HRFP Program by HUL:

SAPPHIRE organized ‘Human Resource Foundation Programme’ facilitated by Hindustan Unilever Limited. The three day workshop (29th September – 1st October) saw experts in the field from HUL come down to campus to share a practitioner’s insights into some of the most pertinent topics from an organizational point of view.


Sapphire hosted Citibank on campus for ‘Citi Day @XLRI’ on 23rd Jan 2014. The event was organized exclusively for the students of XLRI and witnessed enthusiastic participation from both the first and second year students. The events and talks took place on “ Business Case for Diversity” and “Making educated compensation decisions”


Tata Interactive Systems- Sapphire, in association with Tata Interactive Systems, gave the students of XLRI an opportunity to work on a Live Project which required them to generate content in the various domains of Human Resources.
Accenture Management Consulting- In January this year Sapphire in association with AMC gave the students from XLRI an opportunity to work on a live project on skill gap analysis. The project involved identification of key sectors, demand-supply analysis and training interventions required.

SAPPHIRE @ Ensemble:

SAPPHIRE hosted 2 events at Ensemble 2013, its Flagship event War of Wits in association with Accenture and its domain event Enthrone.

While the first round of War of the Wits tested the general HR and OB knowledge of the participants, the second round tested their analytical and problem-solving skills to the max through a very complex business case  round presented in association with Accenture. A total of 383 teams from a staggering 103 campuses.

At the same time, SAPPHIRE also conducted Enthrone, its HR Domain event for the students of XLRI. The final event was a simulation round that tested the adeptness of the participants at making decisive and successful strategies in a tense and thoroughly competitive environment.

Doubt Clearing Sessions:

A major initiative taken up by Sapphire this year was conducting guidance sessions for the junior batch about the various courses that they would face in the course of their first year. The sessions covered a wide range of topics right from the rigors of a specific course to its relevance when it came to the Summer Internship Placement process.

Xpress HR:

Xpress HR - the monthly publication of Sapphire is conceptualized and compiled by the students and faculty of XLRI along with Industrialists in the HR Domain. The magazine covers various things like- articles on themes of monthly issue, picture quiz, latest HR news and trends among others.
